Welcome to Clermont Florida
Clermont Florida is located 22 miles directly west of Orlando, Fl. Even though it’s rather a small city, the heart of Clermont beats strong and it sustains a thriving population of around 14,000 residents. Over time it earned the nick-name of “Gem Of The Hills” because the green and lush landscape is painted on a canvas of gently rolling hills. This provides a perfect scenario for hunting, camping, fishing, bike and horseback riding, and many more exhilarating and exotic outside activities.
Golf lovers can practice their golfing skills on the 18 hole Legends Golf Course, which was designed by Lloyd Clifton. Considered to be one of the Top Ten Golf Courses, and being a par 72, it is certain to test the prowess of any golfer. While attempting to describe the Legends Golf Course, Lihn’s Orlando Golf Guide wrote, and I quote “Featuring vertiginous elevations, cinemascopic horizons and breathtaking views, this handsome addition will definitely elevate your spirits”. For the more daring and courageous athletic sports fans, one might find hang-gliding and para-gliding more to their taste. Farm tours, boat and airplane excursions can also be fun and interesting.
Clermont’s climate is definitely a welcome and comfortable one, especially during the winter months. The area usually receives around 51 inches of rain annually. Any measurable precipitation, usually occurs 107 days a year. There are approximately 236 days of pure sunshine and the average temperature during the month of July is around 92 degrees Fahrenheit, and January can get as low as 49 degrees.
Clermont’s infrastructure is mostly residential while the local economy’s foundation is built on tourism trade. The economy is focused strongly on lodging, restaurants including fast food chains, and a variety of other establishments and businesses, which usually make their way into any normal city or town. Over the past 50 years, the celebrated downtown district hasn’t changed much. Quite a few community events are staged downtown and they are all very well attended by residents and tourists alike. Clermont is 125 years old and it was founded in 1884 and incorporated back in 1916.
In the mid 2000’s, many orange groves were transformed into residential subdivisions. As the population grew, so did the economic growth and in no time retails stores like Wal-Mart, Super Target, K-Mart and other large retail chains were welcomed establishments. In early 2010, a large scale shopping mall called Clermont Landing opened. It’s home to some of our nation’s most well known department stores, Michaels, TJ Maxx, JcPenney, Ross Dress For Less, as well as fashionable restaurants like the Olive Garden and the all American Sea-food restaurant, Red Lobster. After a fun shopping spree and a fine dinner, stroll over to the 16 Screen Epic Theater, relax and enjoy a movie of your choice. This most anticipated and admired new element in Clermont, is a JVPartnership between Weingarten Realty, Developer’s Realty Corp & Epic Theatres. A business development such as this, is what changes a rural area into a modern town or city.
The Florida Citrus Tower is one of Florida’s first attractions and it was built back in 1956. It ranks No. 4 on the Trip Advisory, out of 7 interesting places to visit. Located at 141 N. Highway 27, it’s still a very interesting place to visit, whether you’re a resident or a tourist. Situated on top of one of the highest hill ridges in Florida, the Citrus Tower is 500 ft. above sea level. The original height was intended to be 75 feet, however, when the structure was completed, it measured 226 ft, its total height is equal to that of a 22 story building. It is truly majestic and it stands as a proud monument to all the hard work that was put into the orange groves, as well as the mature, lush citrus groves which enabled the state of Florida to become known as The Citrus State. With the area’s infrastructure changing and growing, the climate of the local economy also grew, and the grandiose Citrus Tower, now being 54 years old, has withstood the test of time, and will continue to stand proud and erect for many generations to come. Hundreds of spring fed lakes which are found in the 8 surrounding counties, can be seen from the glass enclosed deck. If you’re not afraid of heights, you can enjoy the scenic rolling hills and the panoramic vistas. Finally before leaving, be sure to visit Lily’s Citrus Tower Gift Shop, which is located at the base of the Tower. There you will find Lily’s unique Bath Line, Crabtree and Evalyn, Yankee Candles, Florida Candies, Home and Garden Decor and other great gift items.
